This blog is intended to motivate and show you what everyone can do to enjoy the outdoors. There is so much more to life then what society gives, and the peace and happiness you find outside is so much more pure and real then the man-made life styles lots of us are tied into these days. Not saying its bad part of the man-made life style, but it really is good for the mind and body to feel the natural part of life as well. Just saying; take advantage of what you have around you that is natural and naturally beautiful and you will feel so much more alive and happy! :)

Yaaa!!! Today Was A Good Day!

So today it finally sent!!! Im talking of course about High Plains Drifter! Im so stoked, High Plains has been a project since last year when I fist came to Bishop for a week with my dad. Now its done, lots of stress gone. Time to get all worked up about a new route. haha. High Plains is my first v7 here in Bishop so its kinda a special day to me.. I also got on a few other projects and was getting super close. Check em out!

This is Go Granny Go, a v5 that is pretty cool. Has really fun moves but a drop off for the top out.. So its not as cool. But the moves make up for it.

This is the crux for me, Its a massive bump move form a poor side pull to a jug.

This is the drop off part haha.

First moves are nice.

The next photos are of HPD! Check em out. I love the into move, you start on really good crimps and throw a heal hook. Sooo Good.

This is right before the crux. You get the hold my left hand is on and its not very good. Its like a sloppy crimp with a few crystals that bite your skin. After you get this hold, you move your feet and do "The Drifter Move" :)
But its not over after that there is one more tricky move to the jug that can spit you off. It spit me off on one of the attempts and when your up there it feels pretty high.

This is the move to the jug, one you get a grip on this right hand hold its over!

Ahhh Toped out! Felt pretty good. :)   Probably my favorite boulder problem iv climbed so far... Maybe. Its hard to say, each boulder is different and bring its own special set of moves. So its yeah its one of my favorite problems. haha one of the many..

Speaking of favorite boulder problems, this is such an awesome climb!! Its called Molly a v5 and its super sick. Its got these big moves at the beginning and then it changes to really technical foot work, and a massive move to the top which is what im about to do in this picture above. Ultra classic.

Ahhh.. this is a magical boulder problem...
The holds to the moves to the setting are all 100%!! This problem is called Seven Spanish Angles V6. Every hold on this problem is unique, there are slopers, crimps, blobs, and jugs on it. Its quite amazing how they formed like they did. Must be from water flowing over the face of the boulder for thousands of years.

Really cool move here, get a high heal hook that locks you in place, then move up left hand to a sloppy pinch.

That move is so dope! The left hand hold is a pinch that must have been sculpted by the Rock Gods! Its perfect.

And here is the crux! Its so sick. You get the pinch and a supper poor crimp thing for the right hand, get your feet right and DYNO! haha. Its so cool because its the last move and its the hardest move. I must have fallen from up there like 10 times today. Ill get it next time.. I had my hand in the jug in this picture just couldn't hang on.

Ahhhhh! falling!

Good thing I got my pads.

Same problem just a different view. Pretty boulder isnt it?
It stands all alone and has like 10 super classic problems on it.

Another pic of Molly.

HAHAHA! I just had to check this boulder out... Its call Whisky, Beer, and Spliff Hits For Breakfast! hahaha.
To silly right? But it got three stars in the guide book which means its a classic problem. And it was pretty sweet, except for the rock behind me.. I kept thinkin I was going to fall on it.

  1. Hi Dyl,
Congratulations on High Plains Drifter. Dad and I looked at the pictures yesterday evening. It looks very difficult, high, and scary to me. But happy that you're happy. A little cold here in Juneau. Pretty! I've been XC skiing. So nice. OK son, talk with you soon.
    Love.

  2. DYLAN! I don´t know if you´ll acually be able to see this...but I miss you so much bro! How are things!? email me at kvmanning907@gmail.com I want to keep in touch with you but you´re the only fool who doesn´t have facebook! I´m in Guatemala right now heading back to southern Mexico for the rest of the month..and then back down here to Guat to go to Lake Atitlan for part of January. Still not sure when I´m going home, but I´m really starting to super miss it. Especially since here in the Carribean there is so much trash on the beach! I miss the clean Alaskan landscapes! I´ve started browsing flights home...but we´ll see how I feel once we get to Palenque and I spend another couple of weeks in the jungle. I´m not currently travelling on the bus right now, but I may be meeting up with them soon. I will at least be meeting back up with them in Palenque, and then riding back down here to Guat with them. I´m gonna try to meet up with my family while they are in Mexico for christmas. although they´ll be like a 20hr bus ride away from where I´ll be at. Love you Dyl! hope to hear an update from you soon!
